What’s your greatest professional achievement?
I don’t believe in looking back because what you have achieved in the past counts for very little going forward. However, I was extremely proud to be appointed into the MD role for Utilities and my greatest achievement will be to successfully deliver our five year business plan.
What advice would you have given yourself 10 years ago?
Buy shares in Facebook! Seriously, my advice would have been that a good team with an average plan will achieve far more than an average team with a good plan. So, if you are part of a good team pulling together and you’re on the right track, just keep going.
What’s the best thing about working at Amey?
To pick just one, I think my favourite is probably the variety – of what we do, the people we work with and where we work. Being part of such a diverse and professional organisation really excites me.
What do you like to do when you’re not working?
I enjoy keeping fit, socialising with friends and family and watching my local football team Manchester United. I also manage my sons’ youth football team and have recently completed the FA Level 1 coaching course.
Where do you see the Utilities business in five years?
We will be more focussed in areas where we can deliver greater value to our customers through data analytics and pro-active, intelligence led solutions. Our streamlined processes and systems will enable safe, consistent and predictable delivery. We will become a true partner in the sense that we will have far greater influence over the way our customers make important business decisions.
