John Faulkner - Strategy & Development Director
John Faulkner joined Amey in 2011 and is Group Strategy and Development Director.
John is the executive lead for strategic development and strategic direction. He is responsible for new market development evaluation, assessing new growth opportunities and reviewing potential acquisition targets to ensure alignment with Amey’s corporate strategy.
John played a key role in the acquisition and integration of Enterprise into Amey in 2013 and has led the development of the corporate strategy for our new company, with the aim of growing revenues to £3 billion by 2018.
He has held senior roles across both the private and public sector in transport services and support services and has expertise in strategy and planning, organisational change and strategic business development.
This has included key roles within the Highways Agency between 1999 and 2007, where he was responsible for transformational change programmes and business planning of traffic operations and maintenance.
John also worked in the Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit, undertaking a priority review on congestion reduction.
In 2007, he moved to a role within the Department for Transport (DfT), initially taking responsibility for the strategic development of the UK’s aviation and maritime sectors.
Later he headed up the DfT’s Strategy Unit, where he worked across the full span of the department’s transport responsibilities. He played a leading role in the DfT’s submissions to the 2010 Spending Review, led preparations for the 2010 General Election and supported ministers in delivering transport strategy and priorities.
John is a Non-Executive Director at Carter Sullivan, a leading design, installation and maintenance services specialist for critical power systems.
He began his career after studying civil engineering and is a Chartered Civil Engineer.
Outside work, John is a keen cyclist, and enjoys badminton and golf. He is an avid Arsenal and rugby union fan.
