Waste and recycling
Regular and reliable refuse collection and waste treatment is an essential service that helps to make local communities better places to live and work. Amey sees waste differently; to us it’s not simply rubbish. We consider waste to be a potential resource that can be used again and again.
Local authorities are being challenged to move towards a ‘zero waste economy’. We work closely with our clients to provide a full range of waste management services, using pioneering technologies to design bespoke services and solutions that meet local needs.
We are unique because we can offer and manage waste services from the doorstep right through to processing, recycling and creating energy from waste. It means we can help to maximise the potential resources within waste materials and minimise the wastage throughout the waste cycle.
We also support local initiatives to encourage resident participation to increase the volume of waste recycled and run educational centres designed to engage communities in national waste reduction programmes.
The services we provide include:
- Waste Education:
We drive local initiatives to encourage resident participation to increase the volume of waste recycled and run educational centres designed to engage communities in national waste reduction programmes.
- Waste collection
We collect millions of tonnes of waste from households and businesses across the UK each year. Working in partnership with our customers and local residents we improve levels of recycling and deliver efficient, cost effective refuse services.
- Collection and disposal of specialist waste
We use specialist equipment to collect and dispose of confidential, chemical, hazardous, bulky, heavy and clinical waste for both households and commercial customers.
- Management of household waste recycling centres (HWRCs)
Across the country we manage HWRCs that help local residents recycle waste from their homes and dispose of hazardous or bulky waste.
- Construction and management of waste treatment facilities
The waste treatment facilities we construct and manage use the latest mechanical treatment technology to extract waste that can be recycled. This includes glass, metals and plastics that haven’t been segregated at the kerbside. We also operate in-vessel composting facilities and anaerobic digesters that treat any food or organic waste left in black sacks creating renewable energy and a compost-like material for use on brownfield sites. In addition we build and operate energy from waste plants.
