Edinburgh Schools

Description

The Edinburgh Schools PPP contract began in August 2001 and provides Facilities Management (FM) services to 19 educational establishments. The City of Edinburgh Council meets the educational needs of 15,000 pupils within this project and aims to improve the environment in which all these pupils are taught. In the future, the aim is to develop increased community use of these schools with the support of the private sector.

Amey provides FM services to ten primary, five secondary and two special schools. A secure unit and a neighbourhood centre also fall under our remit. The services we provide include cleaning, catering, janitorial and security, grounds and building maintenance, fire and emergency management and disaster recovery.

Since contract commencement, we have extended our services to incorporate the self delivery of building maintenance services (August 2004), and catering services (January 2007). As the contract matures, our capabilities continue to grow.

Innovation

Amey is keen to maximise our environmental achievements; therefore as we look after the energy and waste elements, we consistently look for new ways to do business responsibly.

As part of Amey’s effort to improve our schools’ environmental achievements, the team supports the Eco Schools scheme, an international initiative designed to encourage whole-school action for the environment. This is aligned with our overall corporate social responsibility plan, which has enabled us to engage communities local to the schools we provide services to and exceed the client’s expectation of the contract.

Our aim was for catering services to be self-delivered and in January 2007 we launched our new catering brand  ”Reload”.

We currently serve a wide variety of balanced meals and provide students with key nutritional information. The self-delivery of building maintenance was initiated in August 2004, with additional aspects of repair and maintenance services being incorporated into the contract in 2007. Reactive maintenance has increased the professionalism and capability behind Amey’s self-delivery and in addition has significantly improved overall compliance.
