The Glasgow Schools PPP project began in August 2000 and is the largest educational PFI project in Europe. As part of this contract, we provide Facilities Management (FM) services to 29 secondary schools and one primary school in the Glasgow area.
The Glasgow Schools contract was the first educational PPP won by Amey and after several years of success, Glasgow Schools are now a best practice blueprint for all Scottish educational PPP projects.
The FM services we provide include cleaning, building maintenance, janitorial and security, window cleaning, grounds maintenance and a Helpdesk facility. Other services are subcontracted to our service partners; however our plans for increased self-delivery expansion are progressing.
This contract came about through Glasgow City Council’s ambition to improve their pupils’ learning environments. Part of the PPP plans called for the 38 secondary schools to be reduced to 29, thereby increasing each school’s capacity. This move called for modern, well managed facilities that serve the wider community as well as the school, and could only be achieved with the extended Facilities Management supplied by Amey.
Amey employees, many of whom were TUPE transferred from Glasgow City Council, continue to provide janitorial and cleaning services within the schools. Our Investors in People accreditation reflects our commitment to providing them with clear development paths throughout their career with Amey.
At Amey, we are proud of our strong relationships with both Glasgow City Council and Local Education Partnership, 3ED and in 2006 we successfully completed our first benchmarking exercise to the satisfaction of all parties involved.
The schools we provide a service to are all unique in their educational environments and include Bellahoustan School of Sporting Excellence and Knightswood School of Dance, both of which are now respected institutions in Scottish education. Each of the schools on the Glasgow estate specialises in specific areas of excellence, creating focal points for us offer to support and implement future initiatives.
All of our teams on the contract continue to maintain good working relationships with our schools and we look forward to continuously improving the contract for its duration.
