On the 27th of July 2010, Amey partnered with the Duke of Edinburgh’s award to host ‘Drive for Safety’ at Silverstone; a free event aimed at equipping young drivers with the advanced practical skills they need to keep safe on the UK’s roads.
Road accidents are the largest killer of young people under the age of 25, worldwide[1], and one in three drivers killed on the UK roads is under the age of 25 [2]. Amey manages local and national roads on behalf of local authorities and the Highways Agency, which means we encounter this issue on a regular basis. As such we are keen to help reduce increase young driver safety both across our contracts, and nationwide.
The day included skid pan training, emergency braking techniques and the Silverstone driving assessment, and a road safety workshop.
Thanks to all of those who attended Drive for Safety, and helped to make the event a resounding success.
