Innovations

As part of Amey’s commitment to encourage and support building users and the local community at Parklands, we are currently looking at ways to develop and enhance the recycling service. In February 2009 we took direct ownership of the recycling service on behalf of our client Liverpool City Council. This presently incorporates the collection and management for paper, cardboard, plastics, cans and toner cartridges being recycled across the complex. This has been a huge success and therefore we are investigating other areas were Amey can add or improve the service.

A textile recycling bank was installed at Parklands to allow recycling of clothing and shoes. This is an example of Amey actively engaging with building users and the local community to encourage recycling on site. The installation will allow building users to dispose of such items appropriately, rather than sending to landfill. The initiative will allow the local community to take ownership of recycling in the area and benefit Zoe’s Place charity by helping to raise money for local children. After an initially slow start, responses picked up and the bank has been completely filled on several occasions.

The textile and clothing bank on site will raise funds through recycling unwanted clothes to help hundreds of youngsters with life threatening or life limiting conditions. During the economic climate, this is an alternative way of supporting and contributing to a local charity. For every tonne of recyclable clothes, Zoe’s Place Hospice will receive a fixed sum of money.
