
Chris Webster is the Chief Operating Officer and an Executive Director on the Amey Plc Board. He was appointed to the Board in 2006. He has been instrumental in the development of Amey as a leading provider of end-to-end services across a wide range of markets.
Chris joined Marples Ridgway from University and qualified as a Chartered Engineer in 1984. He quickly progressed through engineering to project management.
Chris’s early career was spent overseas and in the UK working on a variety of building and heavy civil engineering projects including the South Quay Plaza in London’s Docklands, Port Sudan Harbour, Sudan and the Palau Power Plant in Micronesia. Chris joined Amey in 1990 as Project Manager for the construction of a 17 span elevated roadway at Manchester T2 Airport.
Chris was initially introduced to the service industry through the delivery of motorway term maintenance in 1993, in his home county of Yorkshire. In 1996 he promoted the introduction of Partnering into Highway Term Maintenance with the Highways Agency on the West Yorkshire and Humberside term contracts. He remained committed to highway management and maintenance and in 1998 he was appointed Managing Director of the newly formed Amey Highways Limited.
In 2004, Chris was appointed Managing Director of Amey Infrastructure Services, a newly formed division of Amey that brought highways, rail and local government capabilities together to facilitate an end-to-end service offering to key clients including the Highways Agency, Scottish Executive, Network Rail and many local authorities.
In 2006 he led the acquisition of Owen Williams Group, bolstering Amey’s professional services profile and expanding its capabilities to supplement the organisation’s growth agenda.
In 2007 Chris was appointed Chief Operating Officer of Amey taking responsibility of all operational activities of the group.
Chris has a BSc(Hons) degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Manchester, is a Chartered Engineer (MICE and CEng) and a Fellow of the Institution of Highways and Transportation. In 2007 he was appointed as a council member of the Railway Industry Association and in 2008 became a member of the Worshipful Company of Paviors
During his spare time Chris enjoys walking the dog and relaxing in the Peak District with his wife and two children.
