Andrew Nelson, Group Finance Director

Andrew Nelson is Group Finance Director and Executive Director on the Amey Plc Board. Amey’s ultimate parent is the Spanish company Ferrovial, one of the world's leading infrastructure groups.

After gaining an Engineering Science degree from Exeter University Andrew began his career in finance at Arthur Young McLelland Moores, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1983.

He then joined Edsaco, now part of UBS, and subsequently moved to the investment bank Robert Fleming in 1987. He was part of the corporate finance department where he spent ten months on a secondment to Trinidad as part of a team advising the Government of Trinidad and Tobago on its plans to divest and float some of their largest state-owned enterprises.

In 1992, shortly after its privatisation, Andrew joined London Electricity and worked with the board on first, its acquisition by Entergy Corp. in 1996, and then on the later sale by Entergy to EdF in 1998.

Andrew joined Amey in 1999 as Finance Director of Amey Ventures, the division of the Amey Group responsible for initiating, structuring and investing in PFI and PPP opportunities.

During his time in this position Amey Ventures successfully concluded a number of high profile contracts, notably the £1.8 billion Tube Lines PPP, the £500 million MoD Whitehall refurbishment and the £300 million Glasgow Schools programme. He also negotiated the successful sale of Amey’s investment portfolio to Laing Investments in early 2003.

Shortly after Ferrovial’s acquisition of Amey in 2003, Andrew was appointed Group Treasurer and during 2006 was appointed Group Finance Director. During this time the Group has made a number of key acquisitions – notably Jarvis’s additional share in Tube Lines, the Owen William consultancy business and recently Donarbon, a waste and recycling business. Amey has also recently sold its equity in Tube Lines to TfL. Before his appointment to Group Finance Director, Andrew briefly held the post of Managing Director for Amey Ventures.

During his leisure hours he enjoys competitive skiing, golf and plays squash regularly.
